BEW - Teeth Like Medieval Ruins EP [ETX005]
BEW is BarrysElectricWorkshop. 'Teeth Like Medieval Ruins' is his first release on the Electrotoxic netlabel. This set of recordings was inspired by the discovery of an old dis-used harpsichord. It was blocking the fire exit onto the roof of the school where Barry works. Around the same time he was making recordings of the harpsichord (with condenser and contact microphones) he rescued four autoharps from being thrown in a skip, these were in various states of disrepair. He fixed up two of them and treated the others with the addition of wires, nails, card, and a collection of 'weathered' glass fragments found on Helen's Bay beach. The sounds he recorded from these old instruments were departure points. As he collected more sounds from the instruments they suggested different directions to take them. Each recording is not so much a song, more comparable to the visual art idea of 'taking the line for a walk', which Barry has adapted to 'taking a noise for a ramble'.
